PLATFORM: Switch 2 PLAY TIME: 34h 7m
I’ve owned Red Dead Redemption on PS4 for a long time, but I never really clicked with it. I think I just got lost in the open world and ended up drifting around without making much progress. This time, though, I was looking for something with plenty of playtime, and RDR was cheap as chips on CDKeys, so I picked it up again, this time on the Switch.
Going in, I made a conscious effort to stick to the main story, and that made a big difference. I actually enjoyed the experience, even if many of the missions boiled down to doing very similar things for slightly different reasons. It didn’t ruin the game, but it was noticeable.
As usual, I skipped most of the cutscenes, and was genuinely surprised when I suddenly found myself playing as my son. That one’s on me; maybe I do need to pay a bit more attention. I finished the game just before the Switch 2 update dropped, so when I eventually play through the undead version, I’m sure I’ll appreciate the visual upgrade a lot more.

When federal agents threaten his family, former outlaw John Marston is forced to hunt down the gang of criminals he once called friends. Travel across the vast American West and Mexico as Marston fights to bury his blood‑stained past in the critically acclaimed predecessor to Red Dead Redemption 2.
