CLOCKED IT MATE: Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Not wanting to spend more money on another game, I decided to raid my six-year-old’s cartridge collection and came across Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. I’d played it before in the VS mode with my wife, Adele, and we had a lot of fun with it for a while. Eventually, though, it wore thin once we’d run through all the maps and knew each other’s strategies inside out.

This time I decided to try the story mode properly, and I ended up enjoying it far more than I expected. The game blends puzzle elements with turn-based battles, which is a style of gameplay I actually prefer over the usual Mario platformers.

It’s also more challenging than it first appears. Some of the battles really make you think about positioning, abilities, and how to use the environment to your advantage. That’s why I’m slightly baffled that my six-year-old is somehow managing to make his way through it as well.
